Well, the fireworks didn't go as planned. Joan seemed pretty amused by the whole thing, but John was tired, and in no mood for loud noises and bright lights. He covered his eyes and screamed that he wanted to go home for the first quarter. He watched the rest in sullen silence, but plugged his ears. But we made it up to him at the midway. We weren't going to go, because we've been so dirt poor, but John asked to check it out, so we did. Last year, he could only go on the merry-go-round, and he hated it. But this year, he was actually big enough for the kiddie train, and a ride just like the kiddie train, only with Jeeps. We just couldn't resist, and we bought him a few tickets. It was worth it to see the look on his face! He had so much fun! On the train, he made train whistle noises, and on the car, every time he looped around to us, he squealed "I'm driving car!" At one point, a teenager leaned over the rail and gave him a high five. It was like the best night of his life.
In other news, my cold is getting better. I can hear again! Well, pretty much. It's getting better, at any rate. And my ear doesn't hurt anymore, which I'm pretty happy about. It's still a bit swollen, though, but I think I'm winning the battle. :-)
In other news, our mortgage is up for renewal next month, and it looks like we're switching companies. The CIBC has our mortgage now, but we're switching to TD. They offered us a pretty awesome rate - .85 below prime for variable (5.15 as of today) and 5.1 for a fixed five year. Our TD lady got us preapproved a month ago, to get us that low fixed rate. CIBC offered us 5.29 for a fixed rate, and .85 below for variable. It's comparable, but we'd also lik to have everything with one bank, and she thinks she can work some financial magic with our line of credit, so TD wins hands down. When we left, Mike said to me "You know you're with the right financial institution when you want to reach over and hug your banker."
All that's left to decide is fixed or variable. We know there's a recession coming, but Mike's debating whether it will be "stasgflation" of the 80's, in which case, we should lock in, or a regular recession with low interest rates, in which case we should continue with the variable. Decisions, decisions. The banker pushed the variable, because historically, it's better, and they've been advised it will likely be a low interest recession. Variable has definitely saved us a bundle over the past five years. But Mike has heard some economists predict another period of stagflation, so he's not sure. (something to do with energy prices) I'm sure whatever he decides will work out fine. Even if it it is stagflation around the corner, how high can it really go? (Famous last words.)

Sat.a.m. Wow, she sure looks like her bro. now & that was my favourite outfit too. I can imagine John having a great time on the cars & I'm sure the high-5 from the teenager helped to round out his day.Who knows what next year's fireworks will bring. We had our scare here on Mon. It had been a very windy day & my original plan to walk the interpretive trail became a walk around the area loop. Mac talked to a lady with a poodle who had mini doberman's behind her glass doors until she said way you go to your Mom. Right after a girl I used to work with appeared with 2 of her dogs on leashes, I asked if it wud be OK & she said they were just curious. Next she was straddled one of her dogs trying to open his mouth in which was Mac's head & I was trying to retrieve Mac. I was bit twice on one finger & Mac had 3 bites, the kind were the skin & fur was ripped. She offered to take me to TBay for a vet & I ended up phoning the vet on call in TBay who said I did all the right things & since the cuts were on his back, head, ear he shud be fine in 7-10 days & I shud bathe it with water & something from my druggist in it & she was right every day he feels better & the tail is back up when we're out. What an awful experience. My neighbour told me that those dogs have eaten neighbours rabbits & I shud have gone to ER with my bite & they wud have been reported & destroyed dogs. These things are difficult especially when I used to work with the owner. Yesterday it was nice so on my return from town I drove up to the int.centre & we got out, called Mac who refused to leave the side of the car, he wasn't walking anywhere. Sure hope this doesn't hurt his personality. Overcast, no snow, sweetpeas are coming up, lilacs are blooming (with dead leaves from snow-sleet)looks like summer is coming to Ger. Have a good day, hope you're voting for "The Sleeping Giant" on Canada's sevenwonders. Love always - Gram
