we're home to stay!

we're home, as in our Calgary home. To stay, as in, until the next temporary transfer. The last of the guys were sent home today - we found out about it last night. Sure is nice to know we're no longer semi-nomadic. At least for now! There was a certain charm to it all, though. Mike felt that coming home on the weekends made this place feel like a summer cottage, and he was definitely right. And it really makes this place feel a lot bigger. After living in a one room, 600 square foot bachelor apartment, this place feels downright luxurious. Like, we have a bedroom. With a door and everything. And a dining table that can seat more than 2. Imagine that!

Just as we were heading out, I got a call from the neurology dept at the Alberta Children's hospital - it was the admissions nurse collecting info on Joan. I'm going to assume they're doing the MRI. The nurse didn't know - she's just admissions, so she has no access to actual files. But she said we'll be getting either a call or a letter to let us know her appointment dates. MRIs are in pretty high demand, so they could very well be months down the road, but a hard deadline is always good. I'll keep you posted. I should be able to update more often now that we're home, with 'round the clock internet access. I even have pictures!

Oh, and the weather you've been hearing about is true - it got to -38 last night - that's even before the windchill. Not fun at all! Even with mittens, it feels like your fingers will fall off after a few minutes. The burn of frostnip is almost instantaneous. It hurts to breathe. It's a little warmer in Calgary. I think it was -29 as we headed into town, arount 11 p.m. I heard it was -32 in the day in Edmonton. The worst I saw it during the day with windchill was -47. And school was still on! Poor kids. Apparently, it's a blast of arctic air escaping over the mountains. They have a name for it, but I can't recall. Should pass by Friday. All I've got to say, is if I ever get the urge to move to Whitehorse, remind me of this week!
